OS X Mavericks | Tutorial & FAQ

You can update your laptop to Mavericks on the App Store, but here's a few tips to have a 'safe install. NOTE: Before you install be sure to BACK UP your storage to prevent possible loss of files.

1. App Store > Updates > Install Mavericks OS
Your laptop will restart to download update.

SIDE NOTE: You should have at least 8 GB of free space for major updates. 15 GB is recommended.
If you find yourself with low storage space:

(top left corner of screen) > About this Mac > More Info... > Storage  (top bar)

This tells you what your storage consists of to let you decide on any unwanted items you want to delete.

2. After installing Mavericks, it is important that you update all your applications to make sure everything is compatible with the new software.

Will I lose anything?

You shouldn't lose anything but you must take precautions and back up before installation.

How do I get my old applications back if I update my apps?

An old version of the application is still stored in your computer in case you feel the updated apps don't work for you.

Can I downgrade after I upgrade?

Yes, if you don't like Mavericks you can downgrade your laptop. Go to the Apple Support page for a clear step by step process.
